André CORMIER

1969 —

In July 2009, with the help of the Canada Council, he undertook an intensive one-month composition study with Antoine Beuger in Düsseldorf, Germany. While in Düsseldorf, Begegnung, a concert programme entirely dedicated to some of his string works was presented by members of the Quatuor Bozzini as part of the 'Klangraum Series 2009' at the Düsseldorf Kunstraum.
In March 2009, Redshift presented the complete cycle of "Infections" at Pacifique Cinématèque Theatre in Vancouver, and the full cycle of "Bactéries" was given at Listen/Space, in New York in April 2009. His piece "Piling Sand–Piling Stone 2" was featured at the inaugural concert of Listen/ Space, in Brooklyn, NY.
In 2011, after nearly twenty years on the west coast, André has recently returned to eastern Canada. However, in fall 2012 he returned to his native Acadie where, with the support of the Canada Council, he completed his ten-volume twelve-hour adaptation of Herménégilde Chiasson’s massive one thousand-line poem "Conversations." Since his return he has been active in the artistic life of Moncton, including organizing the LeHum concert series, and working with the Re:Flux Festival of New and Experimental Music. He is currently engaged in many new composition projects and collaborations with other artists, as well as developing new initiatives.
In 2013, Mark Tekeshi McGregor premiered his "Piling Sand—Piling Stone 4" in Moncton and St John, New Brunswick. Plans are in the works for releasing this piece as part of Éditions musique Sisyphe's new initiative, Collection Hic et Nunc. André has also recently completed "Piling Sand—Piling Stone 5" for soprano Helen Pridmore with the financial support of artsnb.
Suna No Onna will release his piece "Gegengewicht" on a new CD from Estuary Ltd. Later in 2014, his piano piece "Zwischen den Wolken," commissioned for, and premiered at the European Music Workshop in Altomünster, Germany by Markus Kreul with the assistance of the Canada Council for the Arts, will be released on Redshift Records. This recording, also with the assistance of the Canada Council for the Arts, will bring his two-year collaboration with Markus Kreul to its conclusion. 'Zwischen den Wolken,' a one-piece release will be André's first CD completely dedicated to his music.
